If one is infected with HPV, 80% of the infection will be cleared by its own immunity within three years. It is the persistent infection with high-risk HPV are 300 more times likely to developing cancer in future.
Cervical Cancer has been a Neglected Cancer in India, in-spite of having a very effective screening method. It not only prevents cervical cancer, but also can eliminated it by early diagnosis and treatment.Cervical cancer remains the second most common malignancy in females and affects 5,30,000 women and causing nearly 2,70,000 deaths annually worldwide.
It has an unequal geographic distribution, with the highest global disease burden confined to the developing countries, where the facilities to combat the disease are ineffective. The establishment of central role of HPV (Human papillomavirus) infection in the cervical carcinogenesis has led to new horizon for primary prevention by combating the infection by testing and vaccination.
As the HPV infection has no symptoms, so it is very difficult to identify women having the infection, and the initial damage caused by the virus. Best way to detect the infection is to undergo HPV-DNA Testing which is the new technique developed for screening cervical cancer. There are now new guidelines for replacing HPV-DNA testing rather than doing Pap smear for screening for cervical cancer as HPV-DNA testing is very sensitive test and picks up virus infection ahead of developing cancer and precancer condition.
And if woman is infected with the high-risk HPV virus, then it does not mean she has cancer but in future if the infection is not clear with her immunity than she will be at risk of developing the cancer. Hence, she will require to do triage of testing of pap smear and colposcopy for detection of pre cancer condition of the cervix. At this stage if a woman is diagnosed and treated on time, it is 100 percent curable.
The advantages HPV-DNA testing is the high negative predictive value and the risk of developing precancer condition of cervix is nearly zero at 5 to 6 years. This characteristic of HPV-DNA testing could permit longer screening intervals and result in fewer screening visits during a woman’s lifetime as compared to pap smear which has to been done every 2 to 3 years interval.
Since the awareness of HPV is lacking in general population and lots information is loaded in the media which is very confusing and misguiding. I thought of developing a clinic which will the answer to all the queries about HPV. With this concept in mind, I developed the First HPV clinic in India, First-of-it-kind in India where all the facilities from awareness of HPV, testing and vaccination available under one roof.
It provides the awareness of HPV, the right knowledge of infection, clear ignorance about HPV, combats false fear and myths, the need of precautions and prevention of HPV infection.
It has facility of HPV vaccination for girls and boys. And also vaccination for mid age adults both men and women.
It has the state of art facilities are available for management HPV positive screened women, diagnosis of precancer condition of the cervical cancer and treatment. It has in-house facilities of all type screening facilities like Pap smear, LBC, conventional HPV testing, HPV testing with swab – a newer method, HPV and Pap smear co-testing and HPV Self-testing.
It has not only facility of genital HPV testing for females but males also.It also has facility of Oropharyngeal HPV testing both for males and females.
It has latest advanced Artificial Intelligent enabled Colposcope developed under the guidance of WHO- First launched in India at HPV Clinic. It has the facility of treatment of Pre invasive condition of the cervix like cryotherapy, heat ablation therapy, LEEP Biopsy, LLTEZ and cone biopsy.
